A hónap verse

Idén huszonnyolcadik alkalommal (2010. szeptember 25. és október 2. között) rendezik meg amerikai könyvtárak a tiltott könyvek hetét (Banned Books Week). A könyvtárosok azt vallják, hogy minden ember más értéket követhet, de ez nem adhat alapot ahhoz, hogy egyesek bizonyos könyvek olvasásában másokat megakadályozzanak.
Sheldon Allan "Shel" Silverstein (September 25, 1932 – May 10, 1999) amerikai költõ, énekes, dalszerzõ, forgatókönyvíró, illusztrátor Where the Sidewalk End címû gyermekkönyve is rákerül idõnként egy-egy ilyen listára. Szeptemberben egy ilyen „tiltott” vers lesz a hónap verse.



 

Évente több száz könyv kerül tiltólistára, és az Amerikai Könyvtárak Szövetsége (American Library Association) szerint különösen pikánssá teszi a dolgot, hogy a sokak által top 100-nak tekintett 20. századi szépirodalmi mûvek közül nem kevesebb, mint 42-t volt hosszabb-rövidebb ideig tilos olvasni. Közöttük olyanokat, mint amilyen A nagy Gatsby  F. Scott Fitzgeraldtól; A legyek ura William Goldingtól; Orwell 1984-e; a Lolita Nabokovtól ; A 22-es csapdája Joseph Hellertõl; meg Kurt Vonneguttól az Ötös számú vágóhíd és Joseph Conradtól A sötétség mélyén...

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
