About the site

Aims

The WebEnglish site was created with support from the British Council in Hungary to support teachers of English and learners. It aims to

  • give quick and easy access to language teaching and learning materials for English, teachers and learners,
  • promote British Council and BBC language teaching and learning materials,
  • raise awareness about the availability of electronic resources,
  • familiarise teachers with and provide help with CALL, and
  • introduce free language teaching materials to language learners.

The contents

The 'For teachers' section contains materials organised under three headings. The teaching resources section features content ready to be used in the classroom. The methodology section provides readings for teachers about skills development to think about and make use of in their teaching. The professional development section is a collection of resources for those interested in further professional development.

CEFR level setting

The CEFR levels recommended for the resources have been set on the basis of the "Common Reference Levels: global scale" of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages by a team of experienced users of the Framework.

Council of Europe. (2001). Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, teaching, assessment. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.
