The Public Library of Eger opened in 1952. At that time the stock material of the library - cca. 7758 library units - included basically books. The central library moved to its present building, the Grand Provost's Residence, one of the oldest buildings of the baroque city center in 1957. On 2th June 1988 the library was named after the Hungarian writer Sándor
The present stock is 280000 library units.
In addition to the Central Library there are also different service points and special collections: a Children Library, a Special Collection for Law and Economy, a Music and Foreign Language Collection and 3 branch libraries.
Our library brings information, ideas, learning, imagination and reading to people and communities.
Offers resources and facilities to support the learning and reading needs of people of all ages and abilities, satisfies the interests in local studies and history. The Local History Collection in the central building consists of microfilmes and printed works such as
press cuttings, books, pamphlets, photographs, maps and offers holdings of local authority papers.
The library is also the center of Heves County library network, and has regional responsibilities.
Bródy Sándor Library is in partnership with the British Council and Goethe Institution.

On our website www.brody.iif.hu we publish information about our programmes and events, library news and hints to help discovering new books to read. One can also register „Böngésző”, our Newsletter and read „Hangtárnok”, the blog of the Music Collection.
Year by year we offer a wide range of programmes for everyone. We have two highlited periods „Internet Fiesta” in spring and „Library Week” in autumn. Most of our programmes go on at that time. Our family programmes, „library nights”, training courses, storytelling programmes, book and art exhibitions,
arts and crafts workshops, author evenings are free and attract many people from the town.
